Don't they ever look in the fucking mirror? Don't they have any friends to tell them how bad they look? Don't they have any feelings for those of us who have to look at them?

I have noticed this, too. Fortunately I never want the crap they are selling on TV. a similar scam is done by on-line merchants who seem to have the lowest price on an item you've searched. These scumbags don't allow you to see how much they charge for shipping until you fill out an order...once you've filled in all of the information it becomes clear their "low price" is bullshit.

There are tons of good old time radio shows to choose from to say it's the best. No matter what is said though, there is no doubt that this show ranks in the top 10 of all of them. Yes, there are shows that are a bit older but this one still has charm. There is comedy, sex, and a little politics, easily moving it up to the top. They just don't make them like this anymore.

Stelth:

Stop puzzling about Benny's success. You need to understand that he lived in a galaxy far, far away in a time when we were naive and optimistic about our future as a people and as a country. There was a lot more to laugh at and the laughter came a lot easier back then.

Benny's 'look into the camera' as you call it, was his trademark...the timing for his deadpan stare...impeccable. On stage, he was notorious for being cheap and most of the gags revolved around that fact...and around his horrible violin playing. He was actually an accomplished violinist, but when on stage would play so poorly it would make your ears hurt. Granted most of the jokes and sight gags were benign compared to what we see on HBO's One Night Stand and at local comedy clubs. But back then Benny was hilarious!

Sorry you don't find him funny.

Anyone got a .45 I can borrow for a couple of seconds. I'll be done with it real soon...

Jack Benny is not funny. His success puzzles me. I've watched several episodes of his show and all he does is look into the camera which resulted in the audience laughing. I guess after the war, and holocaust audiences were really easy to please; either that or they were just stupid rubes who laughed when the sign told them to do so.

Man that brings back some memories. Webb was a genius the way he made each story sound so real. The detail was incredible with all the extraneous bull shit he included.

For example, in one episode (I don't remember which), he had stopped home early morning to get something to eat. His mother woke and came into the kitchen and wanted to fix him breakfast. At first he told her to go back to bed, but then gave in and let her make something to eat. While he was sitting waiting at the table, (here's the amazing detail) he said he was going to get the milk from the fridge. Nothing earth shattering, but that simple, inconsequential detail was an example why this didn't seem scripted as a fictional radio story but was a real life story happening right before our ears.

GREAT STUFF. Keep it coming!

I was wondering whether anyone else had thought of this problem. You really hit the nail on the head.

And I applaud that fact that you are probably someone that could benefit from a universal healthcare plan, but choose instead, to rail against it for the good of this country.

Universal healthcare doesn't work! Just look at the Canadians, thousands of them come across the border every year to get treated by a US doctor because they have to wait months just to get an appointment in their own country.

This type of plan only works in a utopian society, and we certainly don't live in utopia.
